On the whole, these are very healthy dogs that if trained, fed and cared for carefully can live up to about 15 years. Though there are still some health problems possible, they are: hip and elbow dysplasia is a primary concern of the breed. These dogs require a lot of active exercise each day and should not really be confined to a small yard. Time required to groom the dog depends on the length of the coat. However, it is not a high maintenance dog.

A devoted breeder will interrogate potential buyers carefully to make sure they are ready to make right owners for such a large and intelligent dog. A reputable breeder will continue to be available for advice and consultation for the rest of the dog’s life. If the owner cannot keep the dog any longer due to financial or personal problems, the breeder will be glad to take it back.
