German Shepherd Club
The german shepherd club will usually have local reputable breeders that participate in competitions and provide picture galleries of dogs.
Rapid popularity of the breed has played a trick on these dogs. Many breeders rely on impulsive buyers and produce dogs of this breed with the only purpose of making money. They don’t try to improve the breed, but produce mediocre dogs with genetic disorders and unstable temperament. Irresponsible buyers attracted by the positive image of the breed portrayed on TV and in movies, obtain these dogs as a matter of fashion and know nothing about their keeping requirements.

German Shepherd Club -
breeders, picture
On April 3, 1899, Max von Stephanitz and Artur Meyer bought the first dog that was called Horand von Grafrath. That very day they decided to form a club dedicated to the breed. The club was called the Verein fur Deutsche Schaferhunde and S.V. Von Stephanitz was named the first president of the organization. He had been the president until his death in 1936. The club started to keep a studbook, held annual shows “Sieger” at which one dog and bitch were selected as Sieger and Siegerin. The breeding process was controlled thoroughly; only the best dogs were selected. The von Stephanitz motto was "utility and intelligence."
